If you are seeking a career in the legal profession, there are many different law colleges and legal degree programs in the United States to choose from. Programs vary in length and requirements and are designed to best fit your goals and what you are seeking in a legal education. Degrees offered in most states include a Juris Doctor which will enable you to become a licensed attorney and to develop the widest range of career opportunities within the legal professions; an A.A.S, B.S. degree or Certificate in Paralegal Studies which will prepare you for employment in the legal profession by providing you with basic legal skills and knowledge of the legal work environment and how the legal field works; and varying degrees in Criminal Justice which will give you a broad legal foundation and prepare you for careers in the areas of law enforcement, courts, corrections and security.

There are 12 colleges and universities in the state of Nebraska offering degrees in the legal profession. There are 8,400 legal professionals that make up the membership of the Nebraska State Bar Association and a staff of 20 legal professionals that make up its staff. Founded as a voluntary Bar in 1899, the Nebraska State Bar Association is now one of 40 mandatory bar associations in the United States. There are several programs in cooperation with and supported by the Nebraska Bar and which employ hundreds of legal professionals in the state including Volunteer Lawyers Project, which provides pro bono or donated legal services to Nebraska residents who would not otherwise have access to the legal system; Counsel for Discipline, which investigates public complaints for attorney misconduct and prosecutes offending lawyers; and the Lawyers Assistance Program.
