If you are seeking a career in the legal profession, there are many different law colleges and legal degree programs in the United States to choose from. Programs vary in length and requirements and are designed to best fit your goals and what you are seeking in a legal education. Degrees offered in most states include a Juris Doctor which will enable you to become a licensed attorney and to develop the widest range of career opportunities within the legal professions; an A.A.S, B.S. degree or Certificate in Paralegal Studies which will prepare you for employment in the legal profession by providing you with basic legal skills and knowledge of the legal work environment and how the legal field works; and varying degrees in Criminal Justice which will give you a broad legal foundation and prepare you for careers in the areas of law enforcement, courts, corrections and security.
There are 15 colleges in the state of Connecticut offering degrees in the legal field. The Rules Committee of the Connecticut Superior Court has created a mechanism for the certification of legal specialists in Connecticut under which legal professionals can meet certain approved standards to obtain certification in one of five legal specialties. Legal professional who become certified specialists devote much of their time to practice of their specialty area, but are committed to share their expertise and work together in order to improve the practice of law in Connecticut. This networking and focus on legal, practice-related issues allows for growth and developmental opportunities for Connecticut’s legal professionals and the advancement of law and justice in Connecticut.
